PSYCHIATRY DEPARTMENT
In 1960, the National Center for Mental Health, located in Mandaluyong City, Metro Manila, had deemed it to establish provincial satellite hospitals to extend mental health services to as many areas as possible. Hence, in the Bicol Region, Don Susano J. Rodriguez Memorial Mental Hospital (DSJRMMH) was established. In 1984, the DSJRMMH was integrated with Bicol Regional Hospital. As the hospital changed its name to Bicol Medical Center in 1995, DSJRMMH was adopted as a department, thereby becoming the Department of Psychiatry.
The BMC-Department of Psychiatry is situated in a 32-hectare open ward in Barangay Cadlan, Pili, Camarines Sur, and is a licensed 200-bed capacity psychiatric ward.
With its vision to be the premier mental health institution in the Bicol region, the Department incessantly pursue avenues to improve its structures, equipment, technology, and human resources.
At present, BMC modernizes the Department of Psychiatry through the 4-part development plan. The first phase is near its completion, including a new Acute Crisis Intervention Service building, Male Ward, and Out-Patient Department.
Since 2014, it is an International Organization for Standardization (ISO) - certified institution due to the Psychiatric Services it provides.
