Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology General Information

 

The BMC Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology was established in 1975. Dr. Antonia Vilgera, an Associate of the Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society for 13 years (1975 - 1988), led the department with two other consultants, Dr. Rizaline Cuadro and Dr. Lourdes Jurado. During this time, the department was accredited by the DOH for service.

In 1988, under the guidance of Dr. Elna Chia, the department was accredited by the Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society for service. A year later, in 1990, the Residency Training program was accredited and continued in the ensuing years. There were six graduates during the pre-accreditation period and 48 graduates post-accreditation. All are doing well in their respective practices.

The department started with five consultants who initiated the department's accreditation. At present, BMC - Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology has 14 active consultants with subspecialty training, and 12 of whom were graduates of the institution. The department consultancy staff is proud of the subspecialty training, namely: Maternal and Fetal Medicine, Gynecologic Oncology, Trophoblastic Diseases, Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, Ob-Gyne Ultrasound, Pediatric, and Adolescent Gynecology and Gynecologic Endoscopy.

  3. To safeguard the welfare of its patients and staff
  4. To provide the highest quality standards of education and training, research, and service in Obstetrics and Gynecology through accredited Residency Training Program in Obstetrics and Gynecology in Bicol Region.
