Established in 2000, the Bicol Medical Center Blood Bank and Transfusion Service offer activities and services related to lead facility functions and hospital-based transfusion and blood banking package.
It primarily caters to hospitals in the province of Camarines Sur. The blood bank also serves as a backup blood source for the Bicol Regional Blood Center and Camarines Norte. Occasionally, it provides for facilities such as the Philippine Blood Center, National Kidney and Transplat Institute, and other hospitals outside Blood Service Network Zone – A.
At present, through its Department Circular No. 2012-0359 dated October 12, 2012, DOH designated the BMC Blood Bank and Transfusion Service as Lead Blood Service Facility (LBSF) in the Bicol Region. This is to achieve the goal of a nationally coordinated and efficient blood services network founded on voluntary blood donation, ensuring safe, adequate, timely, accessible, and equitable supply and rational use of blood.
