February is not just a time to celebrate Valentine’s day, but in a deeper sense it’s a time set aside to raise awareness about heart health and preventing heart disease. This month is observed as Heart Month in the Philippines by virtue of Presidential Decree No. 1096. The annual observance is led by the Department of Health in partnership with the Bicol Medical Center. This year’s theme  “Ang Malusog na Puso ay para sa Lahat” was  fully realized  with the active participation  of  different sectors  like students (University of Nueva Caceres/ University of Saint Anthony/ Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges/ Ateneo de Naga University/  Camarines Sur Community College/ Naga College Foundation), barangay healthy lifestyle groups (Bgy. Trianggulo/ Tabuco/ Dayangdang), employees from the  both government and  private institutions like DTI (Department of Trade and Industry), PHILHEALTH, NIA(National Irrigation Administration) and the SM Healthy Lifestyle group. And of course, the BMC employees headed by MCC, Dr. Efren SJ. Nerva beat it to the max during the  Grand Hataw Exercises, just right after the Funwalk activity which started at Plaza Quezon at 5:30 am.

There were cash prizes and Plaque of Recognition given away to the lucky winners:

In the afternoon, the Heart Month organizers prepared a film showing presentation entitled “BMC Cinema: Now showing…. Please be careful with my HEART”, this is to create awareness and  appreciation on the relevance of having a healthy heart. Our HEART is the most important organ  in our  body. It's the first organ created when cells are dividing during the very early stages of development in the womb. It is the seat of motion and sensation, the center of vitality  in our body. Its a hard working organ and you cannot live or love without it.  So it is very important to take good care of your HEART always!
