NAGA CITY | Bicol Medical Center has officially inaugurated and launched its Malasakit Center on Saturday, August 3, 2019 with the theme “Pagkalinga at Malasakit, sa Bicol Medical Center makakamit.”. Honorable Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go, former Special Assistant to the President (SAP) now Senator, led the grand unveiling of the Malasakit Center marker and turn-over of the 5-million check to BMC at the lobby of the new ER Complex Building.
The establishment of Malasakit Center is one of various social services program of the Duterte administration which is aimed to hasten the delivery of medical and financial assistance for the poor and indigent patients of Bicol. The center is a one-stop shop staffed by representatives from government agencies like Department of Health (DOH), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (Philhealth) and Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO).
In his keynote message, Sen. Bong Go mentioned that he plans to institutionalize these centers by way of the Senate Bill No. 199 also known as Malasakit Center Act of 2019 as one of his top priority bills. This is in order to continue its operation even beyond the term of the present administration. He also vows to help many Filipino people by launching more Malasakit Centers in various parts of the country.
Dr. Francisco Sales III, OIC-Medical Center Chief of Bicol Medical Center, expresses his heartfelt gratitude during the launching, “We feel extremely honoured by the presence of the honorable Senator on this occasion. It is a matter of great pleasure for all of us especially the Bicolanos that he could find time to be with us this afternoon despite his preoccupations and hectic schedules which undoubtedly shows his kind-heartedness and interest to improve the healthcare services in the country.” Dr. Sales also recognizes the full support of the BMC staff to his leadership since his assumption last November 2018 and urges the same to take part in the achievement of the new vision of BMC.
Special guests who joined the senator in the launching were Presidential Assistant for the Visayas Secretary Michael Lloyd Dino, Presidential Assistant for Bicol Affairs Undersecretary Marvel Clavecilla, Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) Chairman Dante Jimenez and Commissioner Manuelito Luna, Department of Health Assistant Secretaries Dr. Maria Francia Laxamana and Dr. Nestor Santiago Jr., AKO Bicol Partylist Congressman Alfredo Garbin Jr., Camarines Sur 2nd and 5th District Representatives Congressman Luis Raymond Villafuerte and Congresswoman Jocelyn Fortuno respectively, and Camarines Sur Provincial Governor Hon. Miguel Luis Villafuerte. Also present in the event are representatives of partnered agencies: Philhealth Regional Vice President Orlando Iñigo Jr., DSWD Regional Director Arnel Garcia and PCSO Cam Sur OIC Branch Manager Jobet Ramos.
There are already 39 Malasakit Centers instituted nationwide and Bicol Medical Center was second to open in the Bicol region.
